Previous academic studies have suggested that representation of Islam and Muslims in the news media tend to be confined to a narrow framework of understanding. Findings suggest that the coverage of British Muslims has increased significantly since 2000. This rise is however, partly explained by the increase in coverage devoted to terrorism and terrorism related stories. 36% of stories about British Muslims overall are about terrorism.
